How do I know if therapy would actually help me?
Many people who come to therapy are functioning well on the outside but feel worn down internally. If stress, anxiety, or dissatisfaction feel constant rather than situational, therapy can help you understand what’s driving that pattern. For people living high-pressure lives, therapy often becomes a space to slow down, think clearly, and regain perspective.
What kinds of stress brings New Yorkers to therapy?
People often seek therapy due to work pressure, relationship strain, loneliness, or feeling disconnected despite being surrounded by others. Financial stress, career comparison, and limited time to rest can also quietly compound emotional strain. Therapy provides space to unpack these pressures without having to minimize or rationalize them.
How do people fit therapy into their busy schedules? I’m already stretched thin as it is.
Therapy is about prioritizing yourself and thinking about yourself, instead of everyone else vying for your attention. If you’re busy, you likely won’t be able to “find” the time for therapy, so you’ll have to make the time. We offer virtual therapy so you can meet from the office (as long as you’re in a private space), or in-person therapy if it’s easier to leave your apartment.
How do I know if I’m making progress?
Sometimes progress will be obvious (i.e. you’re in a significantly better mood) and sometimes it will be more nuanced. LightLine therapists adopt a strength-based approach to identify and bring attention to these positive changes, small or large. After all, the small steps pave the way for larger ones. The evidence of growth and change will be most apparent when there is a trusting, authentic relationship between you and your therapist.
