THERAPY FOR EXPATS IN NYC

Find Stability and Confidence Abroad

Living in another country is more than changing your address—it's reshaping your sense of identity, belonging, and community. You've moved abroad for a reason: work, adventure, love, or a fresh start. And while life abroad can be thrilling, it also brings undeniable challenges. You often feel out of place, isolated, and of course, question whether this was even the right move in the first place.

Maintaining relationships back home and forming new ones abroad leaves you emotionally exhausted, caught between two worlds, never fully here or there.

You’re not alone in feeling this way. And you definitely don’t have to handle it alone.

You’re constantly navigating language barriers, different cultural expectations, and social dynamics that don't always make sense.

Living away from your home country raises significant questions about identity and belonging, leaving you unsure of your true self.

Adjusting to new cultural norms and expectations leaves you feeling alienated and uncertain.

Cultural Adjustment

Relationship Strain

Building meaningful connections abroad is challenging, leading to persistent loneliness and isolation.

Isolation and Loneliness

Language difficulties create frustration, misunderstanding, and feelings of exclusion.

What Working With Us Looks Like

We know—talking to a therapist might feel weird at first. Maybe it even goes beyond that and is plainly discouraged or considered taboo according to cultural norms. We’ll meet you wherever you are, and go at your speed (unless you’re coming to us for more nudging–then we’ll be more firm!). At the end of the day, therapy is just a conversation that’s real.

Some things to know about therapy at LightLine:

  • We tailor therapy to you. No cookie-cutter advice here.
  • We won’t tell you what to do. We help you figure out what you want.
  • You can be 100% yourself. Therapy is a no-judgment zone. We welcome swearing, messiness, and that thing lurking in the back of your mind that you’re scared to tell anyone.

Therapy is not about having all the answers—it’s about helping you ask the right questions and feel more at home in your own skin.
