How to Get Reimbursed for Therapy

01/ Check your Out-of-Network Benefits

Enter your insurance information into the benefits checker to see how much you can get reimbursed for therapy.*

*This is an estimate and is not a guarantee of reimbursement. Clients should always confirm the estimated reimbursement amount directly with their insurance companies, as they have the most up-to-date information. If you're unsure what exactly to ask your insurance company, you can use these questions as a starting point.

02/ Therapy

We’ll meet for therapy and you’ll be responsible for paying for each session in full at the time of the appointment.

We accept all major credit cards, FSA accounts, cash, or check. If paying by credit card, your card will be put on file so it can be charged automatically after each session.

03/ Submit for Reimbursement

At the end of the month, you’ll receive a superbill (a detailed receipt for insurance purposes). You will then submit this to your insurance company.

This process varies based on the policies of the insurance company, but it typically involves the following steps:

Be sure to keep a copy of the superbill and claim form. This will come in handy if there's a dispute or your insurance company makes a mistake in reimbursing you.

Keep a Copy.

After you know your insurance company's submission process, you'll need to send them the superbill. This could be through email, online portal, or they might use a specialized application partner. Sometimes you'll be asked to submit a claim form along with the superbill.

Submit the Superbill.

Reach out to your insurance company to ask about their specific submission process. Sometimes companies require specific forms or special documentation. Submitting without these can delay the reimbursement process.

Contact your Insurance.

Make sure all the fields on the superbill are correct and accurate, including the service dates, service descriptions, CPT codes, and rates.

Confirm the Information.

04/ Reimbursement

The insurance company will review the claim (i.e. make sure that the sessions actually happened), determine how much you are eligible to be paid based on their out-of-network coverage policy, and then pay you directly. You’ll receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) that outlines what they covered.

If you don't hear from your insurance company or receive the correct reimbursement, follow up with them and ask about the status of your claim. Therapy is an investment, but cost shouldn't get in the way of you receiving quality care.
