Your life is already complicated enough. Therapy doesn't need to make your schedule harder.
LightLine Therapy offers virtual psychotherapy throughout New York State for professionals, entrepreneurs, adolescents, and high-achievers who want thoughtful therapy without adding another commute to their week.
No commute to and from appointments
Greater flexibility with demanding work schedules
The ability to choose a therapist based on fit, not proximity
Easier consistency when working remotely or moving between locations within New York
Easier coordination around parenting and caregiving
Online therapy can work particularly well for people whose lives don't fit neatly into predictable schedules. Most people we talk to are very capable of making therapy a priority. They're less interested in making their lives unnecessarily difficult to prove that it's one.
Sometimes the hardest part of staying consistent with therapy is simply getting there. Meeting online can be a good fit if you have an unpredictable schedule, work remotely, live outside New York City, or simply prefer talking to people online instead of in person.
The important question isn't which format is “best.” It's which one makes it easier for you to show up consistently and engage honestly in the work.

Most people who come to LightLine aren't starting from zero. They may already know they're a perfectionist, understand why they people-please, recognize that work has become a way to avoid other parts of their life, or know exactly what happens when anxiety takes over.
The frustrating part is knowing the pattern and yet still finding yourself inside it.
Therapy can help you move beyond identifying what's happening to understanding why the pattern keeps working the way it does, what purpose it serves, and what actually needs to change.
When one unanswered email can occupy your attention for hours, you replay conversations long after everyone else has moved on, or your brain seems determined to prepare for every possible version of the future.
When doing something well rarely feels satisfying because you're already focused on what you could have done better, and mistakes feel disproportionately personal.
When you've become exceptionally good at functioning under pressure, but increasingly bad at knowing when you've had enough.
When you can communicate clearly in a meeting but can't seem to say what you need to your partner, or figure out what you actually want from the person sitting across from you on a third date.
When a breakup, career change, move, promotion, marriage, parenthood, or other transition leaves you wondering who you are now that something important has changed.
You keep meeting your obligations, doing what needs to be done, and wondering why none of it feels particularly meaningful.
Finding the right therapist is hard enough without limiting your search to whoever happens to have an office nearby. Virtual therapy gives you access to LightLine therapists from anywhere in New York State, so you can prioritize approach, experience, and fit over geography.
Without a commute, therapy doesn't have to consume a large part of your morning, afternoon, or evening. That makes it easier to fit a session between meetings, before work, or during lunch.
Finding an hour for yourself can already be difficult when other people depend on you. Removing the commute makes therapy easier to coordinate around school schedules, childcare, or the times when a partner or another caregiver can take over.
A packed workday can make getting to therapy difficult enough. A February sleet storm doesn't exactly help. Online therapy removes some of the variables that get in the way of showing up consistently.
Your calendar may look perfectly manageable when you schedule therapy and completely different by the time Tuesday arrives. Virtual sessions are easier to integrate into weeks that change frequently, particularly for people working hybrid schedules or balancing competing demands.

For many concerns and many clients, psychotherapy delivered by video can be just as effective as in-person therapy. The more relevant question at an individual level is often which format allows you to attend consistently, feel comfortable speaking honestly, and engage fully with your therapist.
Some people prefer being physically in the room. Others find that removing the commute makes therapy easier to sustain.
These terms describe the same basic thing: meeting with a therapist remotely rather than in the same physical office.
At LightLine, we generally use "online therapy" and "virtual therapy" to describe psychotherapy sessions conducted remotely.
LightLine offers virtual therapy to clients located in New York State. You'll also need a private location where you can safely and comfortably participate in your session.
If you'll be outside New York State at the time of an appointment, talk with your therapist beforehand, since where you are physically located can affect whether your therapist is permitted to provide the session.
Yes, as long as you have enough privacy to speak freely without worrying about coworkers or other people overhearing you.
Being technically available for therapy isn't quite the same as being mentally available for it. If possible, give yourself a few minutes before and after the session rather than sandwiching therapy directly between meetings.
For clients who are able to attend our Manhattan office, a combination of virtual and in-person sessions may be possible depending on your therapist's availability and scheduling.
Some people primarily meet virtually and occasionally prefer to come into the office. Others generally meet in person and use virtual sessions when their schedule makes getting to NoMad difficult.
LightLine is a private-pay psychotherapy practice. If your health plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, you may be eligible for reimbursement for a portion of your session fee. Please visit our Insurance and Billing page for more information.
Once you've chosen a therapist and scheduled your appointment, you'll meet via a HIPAA-compliant video platform from anywhere you have privacy in New York State. Your therapist will provide the information you need to join your session before your appointment.
